After our informal induction ceremony, we had our formal induction ceremony where the new members presented their paddles to their pledge moms and bigs, as well as presenting their pledge class paddle. The girls took the oath and are new members! We could not be any prouder of our new members, they have worked so hard and we are very lucky to have them in our sorority!

Recent Service Projects

Members of Gamma making flower pots for Hillview

Gamma Sigma Sigma is a national service sorority, and our priority is doing community service. During the last few weeks, we have performed a few different service projects. First, the members of Gamma as well as our MITs made miniature flower pots for residents of Hillview Manor, a local nursing home. At the nursing home, residents are not allowed to have real flowers in their rooms so we all painted and designed small wooden pots and glued fake flowers in them so that the residents could have flowers to look at. We plan to take them to Hillview upon our next visit in March.

We also do service projects with other Greek organizations at Saint Francis. Alpha Phi Delta fraternity and Gamma Sigma Sigma made candy bags to send to Hillview. We had the help of Alpha brothers, pledges, Gamma members, and Gamma MITs. This was a really fun service project because we got the opportunity to network with the men in the fraternity an got to know about them as well as perform service.

We also did another service project with another fraternity, Phi Kappa Theta. This service project involved our MITs and Theta's pledges as well as Gamma members and Theta brothers. We worked on our Project Linus blankets. Project Linus provides blankets for children in the hospital, so the service project involves sewing tags on the blankets. This was also fun because we got to know the brothers and pledges of Theta and we all got to perform the service project together. We had 4 large bags full of blankets ready to go by the end of the project.

Sassy Six

At the beginning of pledging this semester, Gamma had 6 young women choose to take the journey from being a caterpillar to becoming a butterfly. Our sorority has 6 new members in training and we are all very excited to watch them grow throughout their journey. Their pledge moms (Kayla and Kara) are very excited to help them become members and to guide them throughout their pledge period.

As we entered the 3rd week of pledging, our members in training have been working very hard and doing an amazing job with their journey to becoming a butterfly. At the beginning of this week, our MITs got a surprise. The found out who their Bigs were. All the members were excited for the big reveal and the MITs were happy to finally know who their Bigs were.

Also during this third week, our MITs got to put on two performances for the entire Greek Life at Saint Francis University. All of the fraternities and sororities at SFU take part in "Airband" (which is simply two performances about 3 minutes long). Our MITs did such an incredible job and the Gamma Phi members are extremely proud of our Sassy Six!
